It's an idea session!
In our Sunday school we almost always have a theme.
Now some people use the word theme, and they are referring to lesson content-we call that a topic. To clarify; theme for us means a type of environment. An army theme for example would have some kind of barracks or headquarters, maybe a forest and army costumes & props.
So, along with our themes we typically have a storyline. We’ve talked about story on here before and we will again, but we want to come up with some ideas for a new theme.
Hopefully you, our listeners, find this enjoyable and get some value out listening to a raw idea session.
Some of the things we try to cover:
General theme idea
Rough story outline for our upcoming theme
Various characters that could be part of the theme
Bye.
SPEAKER_00Welcome to another episode, the place where we talk about kids ministry and take a peek behind the scenes. We try to share a little bit of what we've learned that works for us and some of our failures so you can avoid them. We release a new episode every Friday, and this is your backstage pass to see the magic or disaster that happens behind the scenes of our kids ministry. I'm your host, Gabe Baker, and today I'm joined by Brother Brent. How's it going, Brother Brent?
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's going very well. How are you doing today?
SPEAKER_00Well, we had a hard time scheduling this one, didn't we? We did. We struggled a little bit. We had to postpone and reschedule. So what are we finally talking about today?
SPEAKER_01Oh, today topic is going to be called dream up a theme.
SPEAKER_00Dream up a theme. So I love alliteration. So I couldn't get any of that in there. So it kind of rhymes dream theme. So in our Sunday school, we almost always have a theme. So now some people use the word theme and they're referring to like the lesson content. And we call that a topic just for our knowledge. nomenclature here. So to clarify, theme for us means like the type of environment. An army theme, for an example, would have some kind of barracks or headquarters, maybe a forest, army costumes, props, tank, you know, whatever. So along with our themes, we typically have a storyline. So we've talked about story on here before and we will again, but we want to come up with a few ideas for our new theme that we've kind of alluded to on another podcast. So hopefully you, our listeners, find this enjoyable, maybe find some value get some value out of it and just listening to kind of this raw idea session
SPEAKER_01our idea session yeah so our theme or when we we talk about dreaming up a theme and we typically go pretty big here yeah our themes are generally pretty elaborate well I wouldn't even say elaborate it's just we bring in yeah we do a lot of costumes a lot of a lot of bits and pieces that come with it right yeah all that stuff so it's not just one single scene set you know it's it's like an entire room and it's interactive yeah yeah it's like
SPEAKER_00i mean like our last one we had the playground and it was inside of a cave yeah and so
SPEAKER_01yeah and even some of the ones i haven't been a part of or was just barely but i don't even remember seeing too much of it when we had the water the little like stream oh yeah running around upstairs so like that's been about three foot four foot wide stream at one point
SPEAKER_00yeah you had to have a bridge you go well you could some of us could jump a little crazy i think i'd say sometimes it's I remember
SPEAKER_01when we started up, there was water leaking downstairs. That's what I remember. I was like, Oh man. But yeah. Um, I think it, it goes back to stuff we've talked about in the past where, you know, with our themes and what we do, all, all the stuff we add in and all the props, all the backdrops, all the, you know, building and effort we put into the playground, all that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think it captures everybody. It captures all the kids and it
SPEAKER_00definitely
SPEAKER_01makes them excited, especially them knowing, Hey, we, We finished out here just before Christmas, our final one, and in November, whenever it was. I can't exactly remember.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think we took down right at the Sunday after Thanksgiving was our last Sunday or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, somewhere in there. And it's like now the kids, I mean, are probably like, what's next? Yeah, they're ready. Yeah. What's coming up? You know, we've been here doing it a couple of years now and it's like, okay, we've done the pirates. We've done, we did the space theme. We've done the...
SPEAKER_00Survival Quest. Survival Quest. That's kind of a medieval theme. Yeah,
SPEAKER_01the medieval. medieval theme um and there's been some others i just can't even i mean yeah time flies and it's like oh wow we're going into year three for me yeah yeah is it year three i'm pretty sure or is it was it 2020 that you brought me i
SPEAKER_00think so i think it could be so year four yeah is it man that's crazy
SPEAKER_01i have to look back and find out for sure but yeah it's it's it sneaks up on us and it's like yeah we've gone through a lot of themes a lot of changes a lot of you know it's it's sad and cool to see some of our kids that were that age are now going this is the They come up to me and be like, Oh, Hey, we only, I've got only two more weeks in Sunday school. And then I'm going into the youth group and it's like, wow. Okay. Yeah, I guess so. It's fun. It's fun. So yeah, those things coming up with a good theme and how we,
SPEAKER_00yeah. And this one, this one I think will be cool because, so this one's actually probably not going to be as big. Like we're not going to do a playground with this one. Right. And it's, we're experimenting a little bit. So typically our themes are 16 weeks and this one's going to be a nine week. So it's, It's almost like half. It's a shorter theme. But the idea that I kind of am toying with is we have 16, which is our typical, and then we have 13 weeks, which is a quarter. And then nine weeks, I don't know where it came from really, but that seems to be a common timeframe for like different classes and things. And then also with the calendar, the way the calendar is, it's going to work out well for us with just various events and conferences that we have. this nine week will set us up to, I think where we'll have like a four week transition to build for our next theme, which will take us all the way through August. It'll be a full 16 week. Then we're going to have another, I think then we'll have a 13 week if I remember right after that. But anyway, so, so that's kind of what this is. So this one, we're going to try to save a little bit of money and also do a quick turnaround. So we're planning for like basically a two week transition period here is, is, Basically, we're going to start building it and set it up and go. So we got it. We got it. So that new theme is news. And so we talked about that one on our creative character podcast. And so this new theme, that's what it is. It's going to be news. The news reporting. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01We're taking our own imagination station and going back in time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So, yeah. So I got some notes here. General theme ideas, basically the news theme. And so we could report on Bible stories that are, you know, quote unquote happening. Right. So that was one of the ideas that we talked about. One, one
SPEAKER_01thing that I was thinking about, I think it was before we were talking about doing this podcast for like the last week. So one of the things that came to mind is like, okay, we got the reporter, you know, and we have our, our, our segments, I guess, of, so we have, you know, we'll do a prayer request. We'll do a praise song. Yeah. Yeah. One good one where we could slip a reporter in is when we're doing, we're talking about the plan of salvation, you know, Hey, cause the plan of salvation at times it's, it's pretty cut and dry, right? Repent, be baptized, see the Holy Ghost. You've heard this a hundred times. Yes. Because we do it every week. You know, with the reporter, you know, you throw Gary out there and he starts asking, well, what is baptism? What do we do there? And then Gary's up there taking notes on whoever's, you know, talking about it. And then just, I think that would be kind of one of the things that where this theme and whatnot, we can do that sort of thing. Like saying with prayer requests, well, what's a prayer request? How do I pray? What do I, you know, there's all that stuff
SPEAKER_00that you can do. And we can have the prayer I feel characters like, you know, what I just thought of with the baptism is like, can we get a sketch artist in here? Yes. What does this look like? Describe this. Yeah, that would be really cool. That would be fun. And then, you know, and one thing we've done before in like the story of Daniel, we've done it where like the advisors, the, you know, quote evil advisors that are trying to get him in trouble. We've done it. It's not even a modern day story. It's like they're wearing biblical costumes and then we have the spies coming with cameras and they're taking pictures of dad. Right. That's
SPEAKER_01right. We did, we did that here just a bit
SPEAKER_00ago, I think so. Yeah. And so we could do that with, we could do that kind of stuff with the reporters and the cameraman, Gary could come in like, where's my cameraman. And we talked about when we talked about the character, you grab a kid, you know, you're gonna be the cameraman today. Yep. Go take pictures of the Samson over there, you know, or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That'll be a, that'll be fun. There's a lot of, a lot we can do with that. I think anyways, um, and how we can incorporate that into, you know, the news theme. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So one thing I, I like, I don't want to do this exactly, but we like Odyssey a lot. And so we, I was listening to, um, on purpose because of this theme, I was listening to, um, what do they call it? BTV. We don't believe in TV either, but BTV and OT action news or something, I think something like that. And so, and I, I can't, I always forget if they're the same thing or different episodes, but anyway, one of them, I think it's BTV is really like knee jerk and like they they interrupt all the time and it's it's kind of funny you know it's funny how they do and it would be hard to do live but I think I want to try it I'd be all right because I think it would be really cool to do I'm trying to think a specific example but basically like they'll be talking about okay let's just use Samson because I mentioned him it was like you know and Samson grabbed a jawbone of a donkey and then it's like and then there's a we interrupt this yeah and it's like Jawbone Jawbone of a donkey is about you know whatever give the dimensions and stuff and all this stuff so it would be funny I was trying I was talking to my daughter Anisha I was saying like how would we do this live you know because we our segments usually do by design interrupt the previous segment right and so we could do that but a little more extreme we might have to do some
SPEAKER_01recording and then yeah use it as audio cut-ins like we're up there at and doing this then
SPEAKER_00yeah and then the next group comes out or a pair comes out and says yeah we could have our resident expert talk about yep come on with the
SPEAKER_01tape and and uh yeah like forensic forensic uh specialist or something and animal specialist whatever yeah that'd be uh that would be really cool that'd be pretty neat
SPEAKER_00so here's another thing this is this is very random uh so just try to follow us bear with us but so last night um so we were doing youth night and i was grabbing some fog machines for a game we were doing well we have in the storage up in the loft there's the we have a big snow machine we actually have three snow machines small ones they look like fog machines but then we have this big one that we we got and you know for our big event that we
SPEAKER_02did
SPEAKER_00well Clancy and I were talking and he was like we should run that he's like you know they say that you're supposed to run it every three months because we're basically gonna store it till heart of Christmas right right he's like you're supposed to run it every three months and we did actually have some issues with it this year and so that That was probably why. I was like, so maybe we could have the weatherman come out, you know, the meteorologist or whatever comes out and like, oh, it shows it's going to snow this spring. And then the snow machine comes on. Starts snowing out. That'd
SPEAKER_01be awesome.
SPEAKER_00Yes. That'd be so cool. We have used, we used a snow machine in Sunday school a long time ago for Darnia.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I had, I don't know, I can't find it, but I had a really cool video clip. It was just like, it was really short. It was like 10 seconds. Have you seen the recent video? going around oh yeah some of the blasts from the past yeah those are good those are cool but yeah i had a video clip of it was like the kids walking through and the snow was falling it just looked so cool it was in our you know in a sense it goes up here upstate upstairs did
SPEAKER_01they walk through a closet to get in
SPEAKER_00here did they walk through a closet that's that's
SPEAKER_01the one i wish i would like i i mean it's been a few years pretty sure been probably at least five six years maybe even more
SPEAKER_00yeah it's been a while
SPEAKER_01um well it's got to be because kyra said Wow. Wow. Cause it was way, it was at least before her. So it might
SPEAKER_00be like
SPEAKER_0110 years. I don't know, but like, man, that's one part. Like I didn't, I don't remember seeing anything. I remember hearing about the people that were in it and stuff, but that would be.
SPEAKER_00So we've done, we've done it three times, I think. So we did it way, way long, long time ago. And that was really cool. That was down when we were doing mobile, you know, Sunday school down in the fellowship hall. And then, and then we did it, we did, that was the first one or, well, I guess the line the way to the wardrobe yeah whichever one that is and then we did another one I want to say it's Prince Caspian but it's the one with the train like where they go on a train or something I don't know I don't remember these extremely well but anyway so right so we had it basically where you can this was upstairs first time we did upstairs but you came up the stairs and you were you were coming on to the train you were actually entering the train that's pretty neat yeah and then you came off the train and went into like a forest and stuff like that when we were doing our interactives Oh, man. The
SPEAKER_01wheels are turning right now. Yeah. It was so cool. The train theme alone just sounds cool.
SPEAKER_00It's so cool. For a long time, we had like, I think they're all probably gone now, but there was plywood hanging right, because we recycle our wood, you know, we use it for new theme, with red. So, if you've ever seen any red OSB, it's from the train theme. Okay. Because we painted it red for, I can't remember, either the outside or the inside was red. And then we did it one more time up here, and I think we did a line with George I think that's the best one to do for Sunday school. The allegory fits with the Bible the best, and it's just so cool to do in the wintertime. So we did that one up here, but that's been, like you said, a long time ago. And so since we're doing news theme and you always have breaking news and exclusives, so this is an exclusive. Narnia is on the schedule. Now, it's not coming up right away, but it is on the schedule. on the schedule on the menu everyone it's on the menu so
SPEAKER_01anybody out there listening you're gonna have to it'll yeah start dropping little little hints here yeah
SPEAKER_00all right well moving on so oh another thing is we could interview Bible characters so like we could do this especially if we do any kind of miniseries during this nine weeks oh yeah you know we can interview I heard something uh-huh oh that I think this was on on Odyssey as well but a game show that fits right kind of We'll be
SPEAKER_01good, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why not? You know, do a game show and then we could pre, you know, like interview the
SPEAKER_01contestants. Yeah, we've kind of done something similar to that with, I'm trying to think of something, but I know we have. Like with an upcoming fight or something. Yeah, there's been a fight. I forget which one. There's been a couple. I think me and Brother Matthew were kind of referee slash announcer slash interviewer slash promoter. Like a bit of everything, you know, in between rounds. They go, how are you feeling? Or even before that, oh, you seem pretty confident. And I don't think we know. That would be perfect. That would be awesome. And even, even, Oh, call them some of the unknown, like just unknown Bible people. It's like, Oh, you're around
SPEAKER_00so-and-so how, you know, well, that would be cool too, is to add in those, those, uh, like not well-known characters, you know,
SPEAKER_01well-known. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. You know what would be fun? Like John and
SPEAKER_01the whale. We could just, we could interview the whale. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Hey, that's funny. Were you, you were in last week,
SPEAKER_01right? No, I wasn't. I was, I was recovering from an illness. Oh, that's right. You were, So we did Jonah. Oh, that's right. Yes, because Kyra told me actually. That's right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we're in our transition right now. But so, yeah, you know what I just thought of would be a good Bible story. I'm trying to think of how long it's been since we did it. It seems like it might have been kind of recent, but Moses, because I'm thinking of the plagues. What a way to do breaking news. Yes. Breaking news. The water. Something's wrong with the water. It's turned red. When the
SPEAKER_01man comes in. Yeah, that's right. I haven't seen this kind of weather in a long time. We got a locust. Yeah. Good chance a locust coming by. That'd be good. Yeah, I think that would be fun. Just, I mean, because one that adds a little bit of humor into it. Like I said, Jonah the whale. All right, well, let's go interview the whale. Let's see how the whale's recovering after. Yeah,
SPEAKER_00that would be hilarious. I mean, you have indigestion. Think of all the
SPEAKER_01funny stuff you could bring into that.
SPEAKER_00All right, so just kind of a rough story outlined since we're kind of brainstorming and coming up with ideas. So the main kind of, I guess, protagonist in one way or entity is the news, our news station. And so I was kind of thinking about this a little bit and I was thinking of, so, you know, our main character is going to be Gary. I think we've decided Gary
SPEAKER_01Gazette. Yep. Breaking news right now, people. Gary Gazette.
SPEAKER_00Gary Gazette played by Brother Brent. So yeah, Gary Gazette, I think that'll be a good one. And so he'll be the main character, but this will be, so like if you have the space crew or the army team or whatever, this will be the news station, whatever we call it. Right. And then the antagonist, I haven't decided if the antagonist, I mean, there obviously will be a main character just like Gary Gazette, but should the antagonist be A, you know person that's the antagonist and he whatever he's trying to do we got to come up with some of those goals and stuff or should it be like a rival so one thing I thought about is you know you have what do they call national inquirer or whatever you know the goofy news I don't know what they call it but I don't even know what those are about is it like something like the pictures are real but the stories are fake or I don't even yeah maybe a bit of both so anyway just trying to grab maybe that could be like the antagonist Or it could be like a play on how the devil is trying to twist things. Satan tries to twist the truth and maybe that's what they're doing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Fake
SPEAKER_00news. Yeah. Fake news. Oh boy. That gets thrown around a lot. Yeah. And so, so with our, our main entity, I'd have a note here, goals, like the main goal or goals of the, of our news team, you know, what could that be? I mean, maybe just to tell the truth. Right. Yeah. Or to spread the word. Yeah. Spread the word, yeah. on like no it's this way right there's only one way yeah and have the kids kind of be helping like no it's not you know
SPEAKER_01whatever so yeah that's a that's a one where yeah you can we could really play on that because you could have like like we just talked about having gary asking questions and then protagonists in there at the same time saying oh no no no you don't need to yeah follow that like well i know i know getting confused like wait yeah who am i supposed to who are you yeah who am i supposed to believe yeah yeah most times the kids will jump in on that too so that'll be good but yeah
SPEAKER_00that yeah maybe we could have like you know a lot a lot of times we have a climactic uh battle between like the protagonist who's maybe kind of weak or disadvantaged and then at the end he you know does this big battle
SPEAKER_01i think one there especially if new seems like the first to get the scoop the race the race to get the story to get the story and get it out and get the facts you know the right facts so right then there you can use that protagonist is he may have he got the story first he snuck in and got the The story, but it wasn't the actual story. He just, you know, heard a few things and then raced out to get it on the press.
SPEAKER_00And that could be hilarious too, because he could like totally misconstrue. Yes. Like, have you ever heard comedians where they mess up the Bible story, you know, like, and Moses got all the animals on the boat, you know, or, you know, as Moses instead of, you know, and just, yeah, where they mix it all up. And so that can be something. Wait, what? And maybe the climactic battle could be like a debate or something. I don't know or something it has to be interesting for the kids but we'll have to get there we'll work on that part but yeah okay so what I see you making some notes there you got something
SPEAKER_01I'm just writing down things that we were talking about is that kind of we were thinking of what we were going to call the station name I know you kind of bounce some
SPEAKER_00so okay so here's a few if man if somebody could email us with you know you have to do it right after you hear this though but in Info at KidmanBackstage.com. I had a few that I had just looked up. And I might get some of the cities wrong, but it's like LA Times, New York Times, obviously those. The Wall Street Journal. I think it's the Boston Globe. There's something Herald. I'm pretty sure
SPEAKER_01Apostolic Times is already taken or something like that, isn't there? Oh,
SPEAKER_00maybe. Because of the Times. Because of the Times. There you go. There's... Oh, Chicago Tribune. That's a big, yeah. But like the New York Times doesn't have a real strong logo where we could use that, you know, Bible Times for a visual. Yeah, we're going to have to.
SPEAKER_01I had some earlier. I had some. Oh, did you? And now they're slipping through my mind. I can't think of one. I'm like, oh,
SPEAKER_00it'll probably come back to me here. Give me a minute. So like Wall Street Journal, I was like, man, this just doesn't sound cool. But I was like, Straight Street is a place in the Bible. Right. Straight Street Journal. New Testament Times. New Testament Times. Oh, that might. That might be good. Let me write that down. New Testament times. That might work.
SPEAKER_01That rules out the Old Testament, though. So there goes someone's
SPEAKER_00story. Yeah. Well, you know, it's kind of interesting that you say that because and the Old Testament is the one that we get a lot of our stories from, you know. But like with Odyssey, they have OT action news, which is Old Testament action news. I didn't think of that. Yeah. And so that's pretty cool. Yeah. OT action news. And we do want to do a lot of Old Testament stuff, too. But, um,
SPEAKER_01that's just one example. We got, we got, we're going to cut the wheels.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. We had to, yeah. The, um, apostolic Harold. Yeah. I like the idea of it being Bible something or, or another name for it, you know, another name for Bible, you know, the word, the word journal or, uh, I don't know something. Well, yeah, we got to come up with some ideas. Well, let's, um, we, we can, let's not, we might circle back to that even on this podcast, but let's go ahead and, The next one was some various characters. So we got Gary Gazette. And then I just, I just, when I made the outline for the show notes, I listed a bunch of ideas. So we have a dunce probably with, with Gary. And so, and then the antagonist, of course, which we talked about, and then maybe the bad dunce. So like when we just did this pirate thing, we had our first main scar and then we had scab who is his right hand flunky, you know,
SPEAKER_01the
SPEAKER_00failure, the paparazzi. which could be part of the bad team yes but they could also the paparazzi could come in like randomly to spice things up yeah you know memory verse is one of our longer segment I'm Bible stories our longest segment but our segments are two to three minutes and memory versus four yeah because we're trying to memorize something it's it's yeah it's tough yeah and so but that might be a way like paparazzi comes in halfway through and you know kind of re reenergizes it or whatever yeah the
SPEAKER_01one I wrote down here real quick just before uh some sort of sports reporter or something so oh that's good get the kids active for like a minute or two and just have them come in and be like a health health specialist sports you know that around you know and get the kids out of their seat and jump around that's good doesn't even have to be sports reporter but we'll find something
SPEAKER_00yeah that's health enthusiast uh yeah and i had and this could be the same thing like uh the meteorologist the the other thing is like um i just thought of this right now but you know how you go if you go to the dentist and you're sick it's like this is extreme but it's like the dentist is like well it's because of this tooth right and if you go to the chiropractor you're sick it's because your back is out yeah if you know whatever so it's their specialty right and that's extreme but it seems like sometimes that's how they look at it so these characters like the meteorologist the sports reporter it could be from their perspective like well it's because the weather's changing that's why this is happening happening you know right
SPEAKER_01that'd be good oh man you just start thinking like okay if we have a battle in the bible um yeah like the battle of jericho or something and then we can bring in a you know a couple different experts we can bring in a structural engineer who can oh there's no way that wall could come down and then bring in a uh some sort of uh i want to say weapons expert but that's not what i'm looking for i'm looking for uh just a tactician that's what kind of war i think but you know bring it to and then they can kind of spar on oh there's no way that wall without that well if they do this Yeah,
SPEAKER_00that would be good. I have advertiser on there. Oh, yes. We talked about the audio clips and stuff, but I also think it would be funny if you're in the middle of telling something. It had to be planned, you know? But then the advertiser just comes in and is like, would you like to know how to, you know, whatever. And it's like, what? Well, actually, yeah. Tell me more. What about that? For $9.99 Advertisers could come
SPEAKER_01in and be like, would you like to know how to be saved? You could almost do that for offering, like come up with like a, like, hey, for $9.99, we are offering this. You know, come up with something and then. Yeah, they're like, oh, we need to take up an offer. That reminds me. Yeah, it's offering time. Yeah, that would be good. And if we can get $9.99, we can, everyone will go in on
SPEAKER_00this. That's good. Yeah, we could use, that's going to be fun. That would be really cool, I think. So is there, let's see, let's think of, it's hard to come up with very many characters with without a storyline and so a lot of times our storylines go you know for the 16 weeks I mean they're what I mean is they're continuous they play off of you know last week and so the storyline is going somewhere and we usually create that and we're we being me are way behind at this point because we are planning to do a two week transition here so that means I gotta like go home and write tonight but but the idea is that this would be a story that's we have in hand beforehand and we kind of know what this whole story is for the nine weeks so we know where we're going with it right and we have ups and downs what we're going to come you know kind of a climactic ending or whatever so with that I guess coming back to kind of the story element of you know we talked about the National Enquirer type I think that's kind of a cool maybe way to go is is where like they're twisting the truth yes I think I think so and it'll be a little different because It seems like the last few themes we've had have been like physical violence, you know, battles and stuff. We always
SPEAKER_01have the epic showdown at the end.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And so this could be a little bit different just by design. More of a war of words. Yeah. Yeah. And so one thing, I did not put this on the notes, but really quick, let's talk about the decor. So we're going a little bit more minimal on this one. Yep. And so we are for the backdrop. Currently, I just started. the design but the plan is for the backdrop of the stage to be a scene setter that's it's a printed scene setter so I'll design it in Photoshop and then it'll be but it'll be a newsroom okay and so what this has it has a newsroom and what I did is I found there's all kinds of backgrounds you can find on online but I found one that had like these screens in it like there's a newsroom okay it's a big wide open looking newsroom and there's some screens. And in Photoshop, what I'm doing is I'm making those screens, like I'm putting like pictures, like I have one of David and Goliath. Oh, yeah. So it looks like that's happening, you know, on the screen or whatever. For a resource, who I use for that is Billboard Flex. Billboard Flex. So billboardflex.com's... Not a sponsor, but could be one day. You never know. Yeah. We use them a lot. I used to use, and I have still use them. They can do some stuff that Billboard Flex doesn't do, but Ecod Graphics out of New York. Mm-hmm. That's where we first started doing the big scene setters. Okay. But billboard flex is so cheap. They advertise as cheap as 59 cents, but that's for a full billboard, which we've done one time, our space theme. So it's 14, I believe it's 14 feet tall by 40 feet wide. Okay. So it's huge. But if you go down in size, it ends up being roughly 79 cents. So it's still- Still not bad. Yeah, still not bad. Econ graphics is like 99 cents, but they do- Ecod Graphics does a lot of different stuff. They don't just do billboard printing. So anyway, that's a resource, billboardflex.com. Great resource. Check them out. Check them out. And you can design your own in Photoshop. If you need some
SPEAKER_01help, I'm willing to help. Yep. Send them an email. Tell them we need sponsors too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There you go. I was just emailing them. Their shopping cart is down or something. And so I've been emailing them trying to get some pricing. I finally got some pricing just going. going back and forth like oh what do you want grommets oh oh i forgot to ask do you want this so anyway um hopefully we're gonna get that ordered and get that uh coming really soon
SPEAKER_01it's it's gonna be i mean you know where this is being short week or short theme theme and i was talking about her earlier you know not wanting to put a lot of money into this one because of potentially what we got coming up down the road i mean it's let's face it we're not made of money in the sunday school department
SPEAKER_00yeah we're trying to yeah this is a shorter theme and so and i think we can still make it cool Yes, absolutely. By doing it cheap. Yeah. And so we're trying to save money. And yeah, our next one, the plan is to kind of go all out. It's going to be, there's going to be a playground for that one. There's going to be, I don't want to give too much away, but it's going to be pretty cool. Yeah. It'll be. Stay tuned. What's the word? Epic. Epic. There you
SPEAKER_01go. Yep. So stay tuned on that. Yeah. But yeah, like you said, even with the limited spending, we're still going to be able to make it pretty awesome. Yeah. Of course, anyone could, we could make it great. We can make all sorts of cool stuff. that just is like whoa whoa cool but yeah this is a kind of a quick turnaround one
SPEAKER_00yeah um yeah and then and then during that nine weeks the plan is to uh you know raise some more money right for that uh next one so
SPEAKER_01yeah i kind of got my so oh what um 90 or not 90s 90s that's not far enough back uh 50s themed and uh started looking up okay and walter cronkite is out of that yes okay and it's like okay you know it's pretty simple dress shirt tie suspenders yeah um maybe some sort of fedora or
SPEAKER_00hat. Well, and I think that's one of, I can't remember if we mentioned it before, but I think it's actually one of the challenges with this theme, like army theme, easy. Cause you go with camouflage space theme, easy. Go with some spacesuits. This one's harder because we don't want it to look like we just are wearing church clothes. Right. And so that's hence the forties, fifties theme. If we can kind of go over the top with that
SPEAKER_01different style and back, like, so looking back then and just, you know, even just in my own head before I was like, okay, what could I do? Uh, like a baggy suit just comes to mind for some reason like yeah just picturing they're always on the run always you know i can picture like notepad in the
SPEAKER_00breast pocket yeah big old yeah big fat notepad a
SPEAKER_01bunch of pens big tie um you know loose around the neck just kind of yeah
SPEAKER_00like always harried and just like run and hair
SPEAKER_01mess just yeah no time to it's all about reporting getting the news getting the facts yeah nothing about
SPEAKER_00so i was looking up i was trying to get ideas for scenes and this is i guess this might be loose where the city idea even came from but I one thing I came across was uh uh Spider-Man the the old school comics okay Peter Parker and he was a news reporter yep and so it's a tabloid and funny because it wasn't Superman also he was kind of in the new I think he was a I think you might be right he was a reporter something like that I think so anyway but it was like an old school you know his I can't remember the guy Jonas maybe I don't remember but anyway there's this old guy he's always got like a cigar We're not going to do that, for sure. But this old guy, and he's, I think, got suspenders, and so he's always got his sleeves rolled up, you know. But, yeah, I was thinking, like, just different ideas, you know, when I saw that. That'll be fun. We'll have to, I think I mentioned before, I was, you know, I get some of these crazy suits, and I couldn't find a news one, a newsprint. But for girls, they have all kinds of newsprint stuff. So I think they, maybe should get some of that because it would just be cool yeah
SPEAKER_01just throws it throws in the theme a little bit but yeah definitely uh i'm thinking fedora hat you know because they always kind of had just like sitting on that not like you know neat and proper it was just kind of like barely
SPEAKER_00sitting on the back of their head um yeah
SPEAKER_01somebody grab and throw you know um yeah and for our segment notepad or pencil
SPEAKER_00notepad yeah for our segments having kind of that consistent theme too would be cool you know when we come out in pairs or threes yeah whereas like yeah well the i'll look at some thing like where it's prominent enough where it's like okay this is part of that thing they're in costume you know they're in costume you know
SPEAKER_01yeah i'm gonna go i was gonna do it today and then it's totally blank on i was gonna run down to goodwill and stuff and see what they have for oh yeah you know need an oversized suit something that's yeah it should be baggy and fairly easy to find yeah i'm hoping so yeah yeah hopefully you don't have to spend a bunch of money on something that you know again it's not a
SPEAKER_00kng and try to get a right i find a good deal there you never know you never know Free for the price of one. There you go. Got costumes, everybody. All right. Well, man, there's a lot more, but we're kind of running out of time. So
SPEAKER_01a lot of things we could go over, but yeah, I think, uh, the characters, the, you know, even with the dunce and, you know, we talked about that someone that could be, you know, he could be at some point he could be Gary's assistant and it's like, Hey, where's the camera? You were supposed to bring the camera. He's just got empty hands and like, you know, like all sorts of stuff. Like he's trying to be like Gary
SPEAKER_00or something. I mean, there's always all sorts of stuff. He can mess things up. Yeah. Like sometimes Gary could be, like we talked about earlier, he'd be confused and asking questions about plan of salvation or whatever. But then other times it could be like, no, no, son, let me show you. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Get this back to the office, get them printed and totally forget to take the story and to get it printed out. And then that could be a whole nother, that's why they...
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Actually, that's a good idea. Man, we're running out of time. But you could have like where... he didn't get a printer or something. So now the kids have to help tell all the stories. Maybe, maybe Gary's gone. There we go. And the dunce comes back out and he's like, guys, can you help me out? And they help him and he writes notes. That'd be like a good review, right? You know? And then what happened? Okay. Goliath came out and that's good. Yeah. Yeah. Actually that would be kind of cool. That'd be really good. Yeah. Okay. And then Gary could come out and be really impressed that he got the story so good, you know, the details and everything and just from the kids.
SPEAKER_01Butchered, butchered Gary's name though. Yeah. I was like, Gary Gazzetti? What? How'd you do that? Working five years together and you can't spell my name right.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, man, this is fun. But I guess we're out of time. So I think that's a wrap. This is Gary Gazzetti signing off. There we
SPEAKER_01go.
