Today Bro. Brent & I create a new Sunday school character!
Character is what drives story. In our Sunday school we’re heavy on stories, characters and themes. What a lot of the kids remember is our quote; famous, characters. Bro. Keech & I did a podcast recently talking about some of our iconic characters, characters that transcend themes. Characters like, Captain John, Sammy, Ruth Less, and the Doctors. Most of these characters kind of came about through improve and then we developed them and gave them a little backstory etc. But today we thought we’d start off with creating a character that we plan to have around for a while.
Here's a few things we try to cover in 'character development'
- Personality
- Who
- What
- Where
- Primary Motivation
Welcome to another episode, the place where we talk about kids ministry and take a peek behind the scenes. We try to share a little bit of what we've learned that works for us and some of our failures so you can avoid them. We release a new episode every Friday, and this is your backstage pass to see the magic or disaster that happens behind the scenes of our kids ministry. I'm your host, Gabe Baker, and today I'm joined by Brother Brent. How's it going, Brother Brent? It's going very good. All right. Well, you want to mention today's topic? Today's topic, create a character. Create a character. I had to get a little bit of alliteration in there, but it's not as creative maybe as some of our titles. Maybe we'll come up with another title during this. I don't know. We'll see. So character is kind of what drives story. There's an old debate about character versus plot. But in our Sunday school, we're heavy on stories and characters and themes. And so what a lot of the kids remember is our, quote, famous characters. So recently, Brother Keech and I did a podcast. We talked about some of the, I guess, iconic characters. These are characters that transcend themes. So there's Captain John, Sammy, Ruthless, the Doctors, just to name a few. And so these are characters that are not just in one theme. Maybe they started in a theme, but then they've came back to different themes. So most of these characters came about through some kind of improv you know so we like Captain John I can't remember exactly how that came out it was a long time ago but basically he you know rescued us or something and then it just became a repeat character through that theme and then beyond you know so Captain John is like an army character but he's been in our medieval things he's been in space you know so we did he's everywhere yeah he's everywhere and so the same thing Ruthless is one that we did kind of develop it wasn't totally improv and she's a thief very very loosely based off of the Carmen Sandiego character right I don't actually know anything about her I just know that Carmen Sandiego is some kind of thief and she wears all red and so Ruthless is a thief and wears all black and usually steals you know Bible stuff you know and so yeah I don't think I've I've seen that character since I've been in Sunday school yeah it's been a while since any of the well Sammy you've seen Sammy yeah I don't know about Captain John maybe yeah Yeah, you probably haven't. Adopters, but those are. Yeah. Yeah, those are, not the same person plays them. Those are reoccurring ones quite often. Yeah. So anyway, we usually, you know, some of those, like Ruthless is probably the main one that we had developed beforehand just a little bit, but most of them came about through improv and then we kind of developed them after the fact. So we gave them some backstory and some personality. Right. You know, like Captain John is fearless and always gets lost, you know, so some traits, you know. Right, the The character traits. Yeah. So, but anyway, so today I thought like, you know, we'd start off creating a character that, you know, we plan to have around for a while that could be our quote unquote iconic character. Right. Out of the get go. Cause a while back you and I had kind of an offhand conversation. I don't know, maybe a year ago. I want to say about a year ago. It might've been a year ago. In that timeframe. Yeah. So you had been in Sunday school. I think you've been in what now three years or something. I know we've talked about this on other podcasts. I can't remember. I'm pretty sure it was. Looked through my records. Yeah. I'm pretty sure fall time 2020. Okay. I believe so anyway. Yeah, I think I remember you saying that. Yeah. So anyway, we had talked about you were kind of saying like how some of these other characters, I think we were talking about Sammy, which is Brennan's character, who has been in so many different themes. He just works so well. He's kind of a Dunn's character. Sometimes it's the actor that is really making the character different. Yeah, definitely. So we had talked about you basically kind of being a character or having a character. So yeah, I think we're wrapping up this theme that we're in. And so I was thinking, you know, hey, let's do it. Time to start prepping. Yes. What we had talked about. Now, we don't have to stick with this, but kind of in my mind, what we had talked about is like an announcer type guy. Right. Announcer slash reporter, some kind of news type guy. Yeah, that news anchor side. kind of combination all rolled into one is kind of where my mind went I think yeah and the reason I guess part of one thing is I think you would do awesome at it you know you're really good at ad lib and that kind of thing and the comedy side of it would be funny but then also that's an easy character to transcend themes yes because we could be doing medieval in fact now that I think about it we did so we just we did survival quest about I don't know, a year ago or something, and that's medieval. And so in that, so it's old times or whatever, but leading up to the great finale, there's a big, huge showdown between the two lead characters, the protagonist and antagonist, Festus and Radigan. This is the main character. And so there's a big showdown, but leading up to that, there was a guy, he just came in, he was in, I think he had two weeks, two appearances I think his name was, I think I named him Dudley. It was, I think I was the character the first time, but he wore like a suit or whatever. He was modern day. Okay. And he was interviewing, like he interviewed Festus about the upcoming fight. Okay. Now I'm remembering it. Yeah. It's coming back. It's coming back. And he interviewed Radigan about the upcoming fight. And then, then he interviewed Princess Allura too. Like who do you think is going to win and all this. And so that was kind of what I'm thinking, you know, almost for this character that could transcend and themes it could be a modern totally modern day or it could be you know yeah and I know it's not the first time we've done it because I know we've on one of our Sunday school albums that someone recorded I think me and brother Matthew as interviewers reporters oh okay during a battle I can't remember the context I think it was one of our wasn't during one of our themes it was a transition okay and I don't remember the Bible story or if it was even part of the Bible story if it was just another acting oh man so So, in between rounds, we even did like a sponsored buy. Yes. Just came up with stuff off the fly and did that. And it was like, okay, that's fun. And again, that's kind of, I think, where it kind of just lodged in my mind. Like, oh, this could actually, like you said, be something that. Yeah. Well, and that's a great idea, too. It fills everything. It fits all the categories and, you know, like you said. Yeah. And the sponsored buy, we could totally use that to like, we could use it for, you know, verses or something. Oh, yeah, yeah. And do a pre-voice. over on our tracks. Oh, that'd be good. Yeah. Sponsored by X238. And then have one of those fast, you know, then Peter said unto them, repent and be baptized. You know, really fast. Yep. Symptoms may include. Yeah. That can get really good. Oh, man. That'd be a lot of fun. All right. Well, there. Okay. Checking a few boxes already. Yes. So, okay. Let's go. Let's dive into, oh, you know what? Need to grab a pen. Let me grab pens for us. Okay. Okay. There we go. Got some pens. So, this is, this podcast I think is going to be a little different and but this is kind of actually what I created this podcast for is this kind of thing is a peek behind the scenes it's kind of my idea is you know here we are backstage we're literally backstage right now and we got a little table set up and we're got some paper and pen and we're gonna we're gonna create and so that's and listeners can just kind of be a fly on the wall I guess so yeah so hopefully it's interesting it'll be interesting to us if Nothing else. Okay, so I just wrote some notes, and I'm just going to tell everybody my notes here because they're very sparse. We're going to do a lot of this just to kind of figure it out. But I wrote personality, and then classic, what they call characterization, is who, what, where. And then I got primary motivation. So anybody that knows anything about writing, there's more to it than that. But that's kind of like in some character development, there's the – Let's see if I can get this right. That wants the external, external motivation. And this is what the audience or the reader or whatever the format is, what they know. Like it's, it's all the stuff that they can see. Like he wants the treasure, you know, that pirate wants the treasure. But then there's inner motivations or inner desires, you know, like he's flawed character or something, you know. I don't know. He's got a fear. He's afraid of parrots or something. I don't know. So. Anyway, we can get into some of that. So this will be interesting because this is the first time I think that we've really delved this deep into – when we did the Western, Joey and I did some character development in that. But this will be kind of interesting. All right. So personality, I guess – and we don't have to go in order at all. We can go all over. Yes, we can go all over. Personality. So there's – I don't know. I thought of like – we get some ideas from Odyssey. They're so great. Right. I thought of the crying Brian Dern character. That's kind of funny, but I don't know. I think that, I mean, that would work, but I think that it may be, you kind of, it needs to be you. It needs to be something that can work for you. So I think right off the top of my head, it's like, okay, yeah, there's going to be some funny, like, you know, just interviewing people during at some point, you know, maybe before the big battle and just asking them, you know, questions, you know, and make them funny. Like, okay, you know, there's a big fight coming up. How's your family doing back home? And what What's your upbringing like? You know, things, things of that nature. And then also, but you could also do on the serious side of, you know, asking, well, what is baptism and things of that nature, like in the story, not even Bible story, but you know, when we come to our themes and things like that, I think there's a lot of opportunity to, to insert those things, you know, in a way, like, I mean, we do our plan of salvation, but you could take that report and turn that whole into a little segment of interviewing someone who's giving the Well, what do you mean by baptism? What is that? Yeah. You know, things like that on the serious side. And then, yeah. And it gives you the opportunity to ask questions in order to educate the kids. Yes. Yeah. And like what I just thought about when you said that is, you know, you could do things like you could interview a main Bible character, like you could interview Goliath. Yeah. And you could ask him about his brothers and his dad and things that we don't talk about in the Bible story. That could be funny, too. Yeah, that could be funny. But it's, you know, there is information in the Bible about those. Yeah, sibling rivalry. Yeah. What was it like growing up? Yeah. Well, he was always bigger than me. That could be really good. Samson, talk about, interview Samson, ask him about his strength, you know. What was your diet? What was your diet? Yeah, what was the secret? Yeah. Come on, you can tell me the truth. What was the secret behind your strength? Yeah. Oh. Yeah, and so I think, like you said, comedy is going to be a key thing for this character, right? Yeah. I've already got, like, I've got this picture in my head of, you know, it'd probably be, you know, 50s, 40s, 50s, you know, suit. Yes. Suit, fedora, you know. Okay, I'm going to write this down. Pen and pad. I thought about, you know, like, you could even throw in a camera just as a prop and, you know. Yeah. You know, that's one thing is the. Oh, if we could get. a Polaroid. Yeah, that's kind of where I was like, oh man, that'd be interesting. I'm sure we could find something on the cheap for something like that. You don't need anything that's working, obviously. So, you know, Polaroid, one thing that would be cool is if it did work, is you could take pictures of the kids and hand it to them. They make the modern version, I would say. And then if we did, like you said, a pen and notepad, it should be something unique. He should have a weird pen. I it comes to mind like this giant pen i know back home i had a pencil it was probably half the length of this table and you know like two and a half inches around diameter and it's like that'd be just pull that out and like hold on i gotta take a note down here pull your pant leg or something oh we could come up with some something there for sure um okay i'm thinking like as far as caution wise like the the big baggy suit you know that's kind of oh yeah like for some reason just stripes yeah or Or checkers or something. Yeah, just something wild that, yeah, I'm going to have to look. I did look on, so I get these crazy suits, you know, that I do for Sunday school. And so far I found, I was looking for newsprint. Oh. Because for you, you know, for this character. But they have all kinds of stuff for ladies. Newsprint stuff for ladies. But nothing for, no suits. I think I found a t-shirt or something. Yeah. But I was really surprised at this. A lot about checking the Goodwills and stuff for someone's old grandpa's suit that he could take and be like, yeah, hey, this is. We did a spy theme a long time ago. In fact, this was in the theme that Ruthless was created. And Brother Keech, one of his characters, we had multiple characters, but for each person. Brother Keech, one of his characters was Codebreaker. And his whole costume came from Goodwill. But it was a suit. fedora and a scarf i think some sunglasses or something and it looked really cool it was it was and it was kind of that older style too actually but i have to get on that and yeah and maybe like i'm thinking a fedora or maybe with like the feather in it you know like the old school yeah i'm trying to think they used to keep like i want to say something that said even like press on it so you oh i think you're right i mean that would just be a piece of paper and write press on it and you know kind of yes shove it in the corner type thing but yeah for some reason again it's just sticking out in my mind of that old style. I can almost see like the blazer jacket sleeves rolled up. It's just, you know, probably from old pictures. That's what kind of stands out in my mind when I started thinking about the character. I'm like, okay, so how do we do that? And it's like, oh, that would be a good one because it's obviously that's not in style right now, so it would be kind of just unique. Yeah, something that, yeah, whereas if you just wore your church suit, it would seem like you. Yeah, I want something that's like baggy and just kind of almost like It'd be an oversized suit. It needs to be a costume. Yeah, it needs to be a costume, not just a suit. Yeah, yeah. No, I think that's good. Okay, and so this is kind of covering our who. And then, I don't know, we could think of some names. Now, I will say something just a side note. If you're writing, you're in the groove, so to speak, or in the flow, don't worry about your spelling. Don't worry about proper names. Don't worry about places. Just write. And so I'll have stuff where it's like Bob and just like the place, you know is whatever you know it doesn't matter details yeah and then you come back because you got the you're flowing with that concept in fact this is getting off the rails but we a long time ago there was three of us that were working on some scripting and we were I think it was Narnia in fact and we were like well we need a guy you know we we had all these characters we're like wait we need somebody that's what we would call now a facilitator but we need somebody that's kind of leading the being with the kids and leading that's not a character that can be like you know hey sit down whatever And, uh, so we said that we, yeah, we need like a Sunday school guide, dude. Well, I still have scripts with notes in them and it says SSGD, which is Sunday school guide, dude. It says SSGD points to this or whatever. SSGD asks, you know, Prince, whoever. Right. That's awesome. So, yeah. That's good. That's a good point though. Yeah. I don't, don't sit there and don't get bogged down. I'm trying to figure out all the details, character name or whatever, yeah. Yeah, it's something that I've been going over my head. It's like, how do you come up with, you know, a catchy, like, radio name or whatnot, whatever you have. So that character that I did was Dudley, which would work. I think that's funny. It's a cool character, but we might try to think of that. Again, I like alliteration, but we could think of something that, you know, we did some characters where we had Justin. His first name was Justin. His last name was Case. So it was Justin Case. Justin Case. And that's So Ruthless is Ruth-less. And then he had a sister, Justin Case had a sister, which was Sue. Sue. Sue Case. That's good, yeah. And so we might could try to do something along those lines with, you know, the news or something. Now I'm thinking that's all I'm thinking about. All right, what, Gary? All right, so comedy. I got some notes. Comedy, a suit like the... What is that? Like a 50s? 40s, 50s. 40s, 50s. 40s, 50s suit. And then the fedora with maybe a feather. I'm going to put a note here, feather. And then an oversized pen, notepad of some kind. It also needs to be practical enough that you can carry this stuff around. Right. And I'm thinking, you know, on that theme of oversized, like, you know, big tie. Yeah. Oh, yeah. There you go. Just some of the simple things that you can add to. And a big tie might be something that we could create. Yeah. And that kind of almost fits that age, that time period. Yeah. Make it real, real big. Yeah. Like we have some of those clown ties that are really big. So something like that and just overlay it with plaid or something, you know. Okay. So then let's think of some quirks. So like I mentioned earlier, Captain John, a couple of traits that we gave him was that he's fearless. So he's got some kind of history in the what, you know, and nobody knows. And, but he's, he's fearless. He's, you know, so he always rescues us and stuff. And I guess that's almost a trait too, is that's kind of where he comes about. He rescues, you know, all Sunday school gets captured or whatever. And he rescues us. The other thing is he always gets lost. And so, but he doesn't know that he gets lost. He's like, I'll lead the way, you know? Yeah. And so, and we're like, and even the kids got to, this was back when we had Captain John all the time, even the kids were like, no, don't let Captain John lead us.
UNKNOWNYeah.
SPEAKER_00So we should do some of that, some traits for our news guy. Some traits, okay. So like, okay, so I'm just going to throw out just brain dump kind of ideas, right? So he could always be in a rush. He could always be, he could always get words confused. Yeah, he could be that kind of rushed, unorganized, you know, he's the reporter. He should be ready to ask certain questions and have him up there thumbing through, you know, a novel to get to the right question be like oh yeah yeah yeah you know forgetting people's names and yes you know just that and then he could also like I mean we got to decide whether we want him to be like this or not but he could blunder like like okay I'm thinking where I'm thinking of is when we do memory verse often we have a dunce in memory verse that when we say the verse when we say some of these what I call Bible words got that from brother Ballesteros when we say these big Bible words to help the kids understand we have of a dunce that is like gets the word mixed up you know discombobulated and they're like no not like that you know or like when the Bible talks about you know fear the Lord or whatever like oh I'm scared you're scared of the Lord and so trying to explain that to kids so that could be something maybe for the character to be you know always blunder stuff another thing I was thinking of like the flip side of it is he could be like over the top organized okay like we just talked about which I think might work better but let's just we're just exploring so he could be over the top organized like everything has to be in the right place so he sets his pen down and somebody nudges it and he has to reset it you know or something like ADD or what is that OCD the OCD factor yeah let's see and then when he's interviewing people have them constantly adjusting the posture and yes just doing different different things yeah the other thing that might be funny is this has to be sustainable it has to be something we can keep up with, but it's like every time he comes out, uh, or I mean every, you know, not, not during the same Sunday, but every, every Sunday that he appears, maybe like a new, like different color sunglasses or, um, a pocket square. That's really, really, you know, polka dots or whatever. I don't know. I'm just trying to think of different things, you know, something also, uh, that came to mind is, uh, having a cameraman and that camera and being, he grabbed one of the kids. and have them just kind of follow you around. Yeah, be that helper, that cameraman. Like, hey, nope, nope, keep the camera on me. That's a good idea. Yeah, that could be where whenever he comes out, whoever this character is, Gary for now. Yeah, Gary for now. Whenever Gary comes out, the kids, you know, like, me, me, me, pick me, pick me, or whatever, yeah. Like, that's the kind of the funny part is like, yeah, no, you've, last week, that cameraman didn't cut it. I need a new cameraman this week. Yeah, every week. Every week, just, I need a new one. And that one last week, he didn't do a good job. That could be a... Yeah, or he got promoted. Promoted, yeah. Yeah. And then, let's see. Another station stole him. Okay, yeah. And so you said station, and we still need to explore the personality some more. So let's look at my note that says where. And where, really, what that means is the setting, which we kind of got some of that by the 40s, 50s. Right. Right. But then also, you mentioned station. So should he have... Should he be affiliated... With some kind of, and again, this has to transcend themes. Yes. So that'd be interesting because I almost as the character, I think that he needs to be more of the reporter type, the, you know, in there asking the questions and then, you know, as he's closing up, all right, back to Susie back in the studio. And then we could even come up. And that's where we can do the sponsor too. Yeah. Breaking news or whatever. theme and then during the month of December we're doing a transition so there is no theme because we only we just have a like two or three Sunday schools that we're doing during the month of December so I am considering I think what we're going to do is we're going to do a shorter theme like a nine week and it's probably going to be this this part of the reason why we're doing this character right now is it's going to be a news a whole news theme okay maybe yeah and so it'll be like yeah it'll be a way to introduce the character off and running and then when we go into our next theme that character can show up a few times yep just to keep it going you know but yeah so that's that's something uh kids have been asking me what's the next thing i think it's top secret but here we go we're releasing it now a little little intro there yeah so it's it's gonna be any of those kids out there listening yeah yeah we can decide some of that right now but that's where we would decide the station or the newsroom or yep you know come up with a name again like Lots of fun ways you can go about making some of that stuff and doing it again. Just ideas flowing through the head right now with that kind of news thing and whatnot. Hey, there's new kids. Hey, we got a reporter on the sideline. We got some new people out there. Who do we got with us today? Yeah, totally. It could be an inroad for a lot of different things that we could do with that character where it wouldn't be confrontational, for lack of a better word, or, you know, intimidating, I guess, maybe, you know, like, yeah, so, yeah, and, okay, so, on personality, I'm kind of leaning toward, like, that he, so he's not a dunce like Sammy, but I think I like the idea of, like, what you said, he's unorganized, and he's kind of, he is a little bit silly, you know, he's, like, Sammy is, is, the kids love Sammy, he's, like, he He's funny in the over-the-top sort of the way. He's the kid that he doesn't get what he wants. He's pouting on the side of him. Yeah, exactly. So he's totally, yeah. But I think that this would be a little bit more authority character, but he would still be funny. Right. What's the guy in Odyssey, the detective? Oh, Harlow Doyle. Oh, yes. Almost that kind of level. I can see that, yeah. I guess, you know, not necessarily that personality, but that kind of at that level of like, maybe not quite as, as dumb or, but you know, that kind of level where the kids are like respectful of him, but yet they're like, they're not sure if they trust everything he says. That's good. Yeah. All right. So we got, um, let's just kind of go back here. So we got comedy forties, fifties, the costume, um, forties, fifties suit fedora, big tie, um, Which I, again, I think we could like hand make, you know, or not, you know, have, have somebody sew it. My mom or somebody. Yeah. And then the pen notepad. I like the cameraman idea or camera person idea for grabbing a kid. We could do now, this'll take a little bit of work and we got to make it, you know, sustainable to where we actually do it. This will take a little bit of work so that we, you know, we would have to actually do it. it but the voiceovers or the intro the intro music we could do because we can use tracks that we already have you know there's probably there's lots of news tracks yeah yeah and so we can we can do that but oh I know a microphone yeah yeah we need to find a cool microphone how that slipped my mind I don't know so reporter needs microphone yeah and that could be funny and again You don't even necessarily, you don't necessarily need, uh, all those things, but like, yeah, like at certain points you could be with pen and paper, taking notes and asking questions. And the next time you're doing an interview more of like, uh, with that camera, I, oh man, there's a lot of different ways to go about that. So we'd have to nail that. One thing that you might could do that would be kind of funny is, um, okay, let me go back really quick. The microphone I was just going to mention for our, a big event we do I don't know if you remember but we had so brother Joey and I are main characters in this event and we had him he had a microphone and it was like I can't remember it was like really gaudy gold yeah but we could I one thing I was gonna say is maybe you could always have this suitcase with you or a briefcase but I'm thinking where you could have a all this stuff yeah and then it could be according to whatever uh you're doing that day you could pull out all kinds of crazy yes items you know like what is this yeah that'd be good that'd be good a mirror in there to make sure my appearance is right for camp for being on on camera i got it okay i'm good all right there you go yeah yeah a brush whatever even though you're wearing a hat yeah yeah so that might be cool is to have a a suitcase or briefcase that you always come out with or something. It'd have to be some ridiculous looking suitcase too. Oh, yes. Snake skin. There you go. Alligator. Yes. Alligator. All right. We're going to be going on Amazon tonight. See what we can find. Oh, and your shoes. Yes. I was thinking about shoes. Alligator skin shoes. That would be good. We'll find something. Pictures to follow yeah yes we'll post the pictures later yeah so that's a few things so then what was I going to say oh should he be authoritative in the manner like that he's really sure of what he's talking about like I guess what I mean is like where he I'm thinking of if he had something just wrong I'm trying to think of a good example okay David and Goliath and he's like going on about how David it's going to kill Goliath with a staff or something. I don't know. Oh, he's down in the water. I think he's grabbing a tree branch. All right. So that's what he's going to use, folks, is a tree branch, you know, or something. I don't know. Yeah. Okay. That would work, I think. Yeah. So, and again, I'm just throwing out ideas, but like it might would be funny and help us reveal things to the kids, you know, use it as an education tool to like, let's just stick with that's train of thought is like, he's this whole time. Um, he's like, yeah, he's got a tree branch and it's got five smooth leaves on it and, you know, or whatever, you know, and he's getting into all mixed up. And then at the end be like, Oh wait, he threw the tree branch away. It's stones or I don't know, something. Um, that'd be kind of funny. Uh, the reporter who's a hundred percent sure of what himself. And then at the end goes, well, wait a minute. Yeah. Uh, okay. I can say that. That would be good. So another thing that he could do is like, uh, you gave me the idea when you were saying about how he's coming out, like how's the family back home or whatever, maybe that would be kind of cool. Uh, I talked, I think brother Aaron and I talked about it a long time ago on the podcast about, you know, teaching, teaching the intricacies of a Bible story. And so I remember when we were like, what did, uh, Joseph's name get changed to and you know some kid was like Zephanath Phineha and we were just floored you know now I think most of the kids would know that in our Sunday school just because we've made a point you know for them to know yeah and his wife Azaneth but that would be a great place for the reporter to fill in those details or to reiterate them even right is like if we just use Joseph because that's the story we're on you could interview kids that'd be good And then, okay, so let's think about this. So the kid, you know, you might grab a random kid and they might know some or none of the story. If they know some, that's great. And then you're like, oh yeah, he did. You know, so you could say like, so how did Joseph end up in Egypt anyway? You know, or whatever. And then see what the kids say. But you could ask leading questions. Yeah. We could almost tie that once in a while into how we do our closing, our closing. our review. Oh, that's good. Is have the reporter, Gary, have Gary out there. Have Gary do the review. Yeah. And be like, all right, kids. So, and then go through the different things. What was our memory verse today? And then bring up a kid. I just wanted to interview and interview you. I heard there's a Bible verse going around and I heard it's pretty catchy. Could you tell me about it? Yeah. Well, that might be, that would be a great way for less lesson is the hardest thing right now. Anyway, I just haven't really dissected it to figure out a better way. way when we do review we have a lot going on in San Francisco we have all these segments you know memory verse offering we have our theme that's happening and that's a continuous story and so there's all these things so when we do review we review three things we review the Bible story the lesson and the memory verse because that's really what we want the takeaway to be we don't want it to be like oh William escaped the pirates snack time yeah yeah so that's not really I mean while our themes usually have some kind of lesson built into them we really want the kids to digest the Bible story and the lesson so anyway with the Bible story it's easy because it's like what was our Bible story about today Daniel the lion's den and remember verse is easy because like oh Acts 4-2 you know and then the lesson though is harder to be super concise and for them to get it at least the way we've done it I'm sure there's a better solution but that might be one way that it could be done is the reporter could kind of interview or do something to restate the lesson right clearly you know yeah I think there's a lot of avenues we could go down and again we're not obviously going to be doing that with a reporter every week but right yeah it's something that again you can bring a character and do this with like make it I'm not going to say fun but funner or or something, you know, just different that, again, holds their attention in a different way. You're delivering something in a different way. I think that's one of the things with these, I keep on using the term, iconic characters. That's one of the things with these iconic characters is, like, let's just, if we had enough, you know, let's just say, like, this week, the reporter comes in and does this little part. Next week, all of a sudden, Captain John, where'd he come from? What is he talking about? You know? And so, I mean, that's one of the ways where we still want to do our themes, but it's kind of like what I'm thinking is, so we're going to probably do this short nine-week theme, and then we're going to do a 16-week. Our typical theme is 16 weeks. And so we'll go into that 16-week theme, and let's just say around about week five, Gary pops in. And all the kids will be like, oh, you know, I remember him. Good old Gary. And so here he is. you know, and then, you know, he shows up again, we, you know, nine or something, I don't know, just whatever. And so, um, I think that'll, that'd be kind of cool. That would be. Yeah. Okay. And I wrote down primary motivation. I think that really, that, that applies more to a protagonist or something in the story, but we could have like that whenever he comes out, he's always got an objective, you know, and it could be, you know, like he's always trying to find out what, what happened or what is about to happen or. Right. Something like that. That'd be good. All right. Well, that's just kind of a peek in. It's not something we like do often, but it is kind of a peek behind the scenes on, I guess I do some of this on my own, but it's so much more fun doing it, you know, like this. Bouncing ideas. Yeah. Yeah. Things you don't think about or. Yeah. So what we should do off of this, and we might could even get somebody else involved, All right. Well, we are out of time, so I think that's a wrap. All right.
